ConjuRing

Design Statement

ConjuRing is a trading card game specifically built for up to four players. From the project’s origins, we set out to create a casual and approachable take on the trading card game genre that retained the depth needed establish an enthusiastic fan base. In crafting that depth, we found inspiration in the mechanics of light euro-style board games. These highly interactive experiences influenced our core betting system, in which players compete for to place the most bets on the winning fighter.

Base set design seeks to underline our dedication to approachability by offering easy-to-learn starter decks. This design focus is reinforced by the visual templating of each card, which features iconography that enhances a player’s ability to easily comprehend card effects. Further, we dedicated a concerted effort toward crafting a streamlined user experience through the creation of beginner playmats, player aids, and robust tutorialization. Our theming and character design echoes the whimsical nature of the core game experience. With fantastical creatures ranging from anthropomorphic hot dogs to guitar-shredding sharks, we sought to envision a world where players could enact their gameplans while simultaneously sparking laughter.

Going forward, we intend to continue developing ConjuRing and developing a dedicated community. Our primary point of emphasis will be the expansion of the central betting mechanic, as we see enormous potential for enhancing variance and replayability. In the medium term, we aim to finalize a core card pool that inspires a variety of player-constructed decks,
